Poem #18

Knowledge…

When Gilling’s son Suttung found out about this,
he went there and seized the dwarfs and took them
out to sea and put them on a skerry below high-water level…

from Edda, by Snorri Sturluson, trans. by Anthony Faulkes

In holding the dwarfs’ transportation–
the very mead of meaning–
something will be lost no one will obtain.
What is gained? The value of everybody’s fate
to everybody necessary for being.
